On March 21, 2014 I gave a presentation at the Chinese Club entitled Business Immigration to Hong Kong – A Practical Guide.

This segment discusses how to go about applying for a prolonged visitor visa for defacto spouse life partners.

My wife is a local but she has started some work in China. The extension of a visa asks if the sponser/spouse has been away from HK for certain amounts of time. How much does that affect extending the dependent visa?

ImmD wish to be sure that the underlying rationale for the original grant of the dependant visa holds good – namely family reunion. If the sponsoring spouse no longer lives in Hong Kong with her sponsored partner, the question is begged as to the ongoing need for the dependant visa in those circumstances.
